Om Ron Holland
New Zealander Ron Holland moved to Ireland in 1973 and quickly gained a reputation for designing fast racing boats. As his designs won on the racing circuits worldwide, Ron Holland Design won recognition and established itself internationally.
In the early eighties, Holland identified an inte rest in the revival of large sailing yachts. He took the ”Golden Age of Sail” one step further: to create large, high performance sailing yachts as of old, but design them to contain the greater volume interiors associated with motor yachts.
Today Ron Holland Design has designed more sailing yachts of 100 feet and over than any of its competitors. The 143 ft. ketch ”Juliet” was awarded `Best Sailing Yacht In The World´ the year she launched. The 160 ft. ”Thalia” was the largest of Holland´s designs afloat until February 2003 when the 210 ft. aluminium ketch ”Felicita West” was completed at Perini Navi in Italy. He also designed the worlds largest sloop, the 245 ft composite yacht ”Mirabella V” and he is currently famous for designing the 50 million dollar yacht ”Ethereal” for the internet guru Bill Joy.
Ron Holland Design has used the research and development from these larger projects to bring design innovations and efficiencies to its yachts under 100 feet. They have designed a series of yachts from 42 to 65 feet. Among many others the Discovery 55 for Discovery Yachts, and the M 46 for MABI Yachts.
